Not only was Black Friday the top day for gun sales in the history of the USA, but I spoke with the owner of a local Austin gun shop just a couple of days ago, and he told me that on the Thursday and Friday before Christmas his shop was completely slammed with customers, and many of the products they wanted were simply out of stock or unavailable.

All this is a worrisome sign to anyone who understands even a little bit about the complexities of modern society. Even to build something as simple as a water bottle, a manufacturer must be able to depend on a very long and highly complex chain of suppliers who individually specialize in metals, plastics or o-ring manufacturing. Then there's the logo printing which requires yet another supply chain of ink specialists and printing equipment. While a stainless steel water bottle may seem simple, it's actually the culmination of thousands of years of specialized knowledge, processes and equipment.

In case you haven't noticed, we're fat, and getting fatter.
If Americans stay on this path, 83 percent of men will be overweight or obese by 2020. Women are right behind them, with 72 percent projected to be overweight or obese by then.
The implications go far beyond tight pants and groaning sofas. Obesity is a big risk factor for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Imagining an America of overweight, unhealthy people gives public health officials the willies. And it should be frightening to us civilians, too.
The latest numbers come from Mark Huffman, an assistant professor of preventive medicine and cardiology at Northwestern University who presented them at the annual scientific meeting of the American Heart Asssociation this week.
He looked at current rates for cardiovascular risk factors including smoking, lack of exercise, diet, weight, blood pressure and cholesterol. He found that reductions in smoking, high cholesterol and high blood pressure since 1988 have been offset by weight gain, diabetes, and pre-diabetes.
Then he took the increases in weight, diabetes, and prediabetes, and predicted where they would go in the next two decades. That's how he came up with more than three-quarters of Americans becoming overweight.
"It's really striking," Huffman told Shots. "It, gosh, it makes you want to figure out solutions."
That's especially true because we aren't exemplars of healthy living right now. Right now, 32 percent of men and 34 percent of women are obese. Those numbers are projected to rise to 43 and 42 percent in 2020, nudging up toward half of all people.
The standard advice for losing weight often comes up short for people who are obese.
If they switch to a healthful diet and exercise more, they might lose a bit. But the pounds have a way of creeping back on.
Now some provocative research suggests that a part of the problem might be that obesity could change the area of the brain that helps control appetite and body weight.
And those changes might start within a day of eating a high-fat meal, according to scientists who are trying to figure out why it's so hard to lose weight. They report seeing changes in the brain after just one day on a fatty diet.
"That was quite a shock," says Michael Schwartz, a professor and director of the Diabetes and Obesity Center of Excellence at the University of Washington. "This might reflect fundamental biological changes in how the brain works that help explain why it's so hard to keep weight off."

Right now, there are two pieces of legislation in Congress that would change the Internet forever if they are enacted. The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) would give the federal government the ability to potentially shut down millions of websites. SOPA (the version being considered in the U.S. House of Representatives) is the more dangerous of the two. It would essentially be the equivalent of a nuclear bomb being dropped on the Internet. It would give government officials unlimited power to very rapidly shut down any website that is found to "engage in, enable or facilitate" copyright infringement. That language is very broad and very vague. Many fear that it will be used to shut down any websites that even inadvertently link to "infringing material". Can you imagine a world where there is no more Facebook, Twitter or YouTube? Sites like those would be forced to hire thousands of Internet censors to make sure that no "infringing material" is posted, and many prominent websites may simply decide that allowing users to post content is no longer profitable and is just not worth the hassle. Are you starting to get the picture? That is why we must stop SOPA. If SOPA is enacted, it could be the death of the free Internet.
But this is exactly the kind of bill that the establishment media has been waiting for. It would give them back control. SOPA is being heavily promoted by big media corporations. If they are able to shut down free speech on the Internet, then suddenly everyone would be forced to rely on them for news and entertainment once again.

In fact, Dee Nicholson, the National Communications Director for Freedom in Canadian Health Care is not shy about saying that Polysorbate 80 is "linked to infertility in mice".

Officially, HAARP is a research station directed by the Air Force Research Laboratory's Space Vehicles Directorate in Gokona, Alaska, that opened in 1992 to gather data about the atmosphere and "radio propagation conditions." Their web site (www.haarp.alaska.edu) states that they are monitoring and archiving the naturally occurring variations with the sun's activities such as sunspots and solar flares.
HAARP constitutes a system of powerful antennas capable of creating "controlled local modifications of the ionosphere." However, there seems to be much more going on behind HAARP's public face.
THE IDEA FOR HAARP BASED ON TESLA TECHNOLOGY
HAARP is based on physicist Bernard J. Eastlund's U.S. Patent from 1987 titled "Method and Apparatus for Altering a Region in the Earth's Atmosphere, Ionosphere, and/or Magnetosphere" (US #4,686,605). Eastlund's patent is based, in part, on the works of Nikola Tesla, who first suggested that RF could transmit approximately one watt per cubic centimeter to any point on the planet without the use of wires. Thus, power can generated on the ground and then sent through the air to the upper areas of the atmosphere miles above the surface of the planet.
Eastlund explained in his patent application that by influencing the ionosphere, methods of communication disruption, missile shielding and weather modification are possible. His second patent described the reflection of a second signal, using a previously "heated" ionospheric bulge, to distant locations on the Earth's surface.
Eastlund had been working with the Atlantic Richfield Company, holders of a massive reserve of natural gas under Alaska's North Slope. ARCO bought Eastlund's first two patents with the understanding that this new technology would make it possible for their natural gas reserves, too expensive to be piped from Alaska, to be converted to electrical energy on the north slope, and then bounced off the heated ionosphere to customers in remote locations around the globe.
Because Eastlund's "heaters" could elevate the Earth's ionosphere, his discovery provided the ability to control weather by altering upper atmosphere wind patterns. This is done by focusing high frequency radio transmissions on the ionosphere, lifting and heating it in localized areas which then alters wind patterns and ultimately weather conditions.
Unfortunately, the military had purchased Eastlund's two patents from ARCO and had given them to Raytheon, a military contractor. So there would be no civilian use for this new technology.
WHAT HAARP COULD BE USED FOR
Today, HAARP has 48 antennas that can broadcast up to 960 kW of power, and plans to expand to 180 antennas and 3.6 megawatts of power by 2006. Even that is short of the thousands of antennas and hundreds of megawatts of power that Eastlund figures would be needed to control the weather or act as an effective missile shield. However, even at 3.6 megawatts, significant weather control experiments could be performed.
In fact, radio operators who routinely monitor HAARP transmissions have noted an increase in RF output from the station right before hurricanes Katrina and Rita grew into dangerous storms. Though there is no proof that the ferocity of these recent hurricanes are the result of climatic tampering by the HAARP administration, Phillips Geophysics Lab, which is a partner in the HAARP project, contemplates the triggering of storms and hurricanes for military use in a course for military personnel at MD's Hanscom Air Force Base, on weather modification techniques.
Even if the HAARP program is experimenting with weather control, ground-based weather control could soon be surpassed by theoretical solar powered satellite-based systems with a possible power output of 1,000 megawatts. NASA, and the European Space Agency has been researching the possibility of such satellites being used as an energy source, transmitting power to Earth with concentrated beams of microwaves. With a fleet of these powerful satellites using the same RF principals used by HAARP, it is conceivable that the weather over any geographic location could be modified at will.

A GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans. Because this involves the transfer of genes, GMOs are also known as “transgenic” organisms.
This process may be called either Genetic Engineering (GE) or Genetic Modification (GM); they are one and the same.
Every plant and animal is made of cells, each of which has a center called a nucleus. Inside every nucleus there are strings of DNA, half of which is normally inherited from the mother and half from the father. Short sequences of DNA are called genes. These genes operate in complex networks that are finely regulated to enable the processes of living organisms to happen in the right place and at the right time.
Because living organisms have natural barriers to protect themselves against the introduction of DNA from a different species, genetic engineers must force the DNA from one organism into another. Their methods include:
*Using viruses or bacteria to "infect" animal or plant cells with the new DNA.
*Coating DNA onto tiny metal pellets, and firing it with a special gun into the cells.
*Injecting the new DNA into fertilized eggs with a very fine needle.
*Using electric shocks to create holes in the membrane covering sperm, and then forcing the new DNA into the sperm through these holes.
The technology of genetic engineering is currently very crude. It is not possible to insert a new gene with any accuracy, and the transfer of new genes can disrupt the finely controlled network of DNA in an organism.

Nuclear fission powers the movement of Earth’s continents and crust, a consortium of physicists and other scientists is now reporting, confirming long-standing thinking on this topic. Using neutrino detectors in Japan and Italy—the Kamioka Liquid-Scintillator Antineutrino Detector (KamLAND) and the Borexino Detector—the scientists arrived at their conclusion by measuring the flow of the antithesis of these neutral particles as they emanate from our planet. For the first time in nearly a century, automobile accidents are no longer the nation's leading cause of accidental deaths, according to a major report released yesterday by the National Center for Health Statistics. The new number one killer is drugs -- not smack, crystal meth or any other stepped-on menace sold in urban alleyways or trailer parks, but bright, shiny pills prescribed by doctors, approved by the government, manufactured by pharmaceutical companies and sold to the consumer as "medicine." Yet of the billions of legit pills Americans pop every year for medical conditions serious and otherwise, the vast majority of lives are claimed by only a select few classes -- painkillers, sedatives and stimulants -- that all share a common characteristic: they promote abuse, dependence and addiction.
Nearly nine out of ten of those poisonings were caused by prescription drug overdoses, with the chief culprit being opiate-based pain relievers such as Vicodin (hydrocodone), OxyContin and Percocet (oxycodone), codeine, morphine -- and let's not forget Actiq (fentanyl), the infamous berry-flavored lollipop that is 100 times stronger than morphine and -- like most opiate analgesics -- so overprescribed that only about 10 percent of its sales come from its original indication to treat cancer pain.

Exposure to the chemical BPA very early in life might make it hard to get pregnant later on.

Even as women choose to have babies later in life, more are having trouble conceiving, and the chemical BPA might be partly to blame, suggests a new study.
Mice that were exposed to tiny amounts of the common chemical in the womb and shortly after birth had no problems getting pregnant early in their reproductive lives, the study found. But the animals were less likely to get pregnant as they aged compared to animals that had not been exposed to BPA, and they gave birth to smaller litters as time wore on.
That process, accumulating evidence suggests, might lead to all sorts of negative health consequences, including some cancers, behavioral issues, and developmental problems.
Previous studies have looked for links between BPA and fertility, but those studies have only asked whether young animals might have trouble getting pregnant on the first try after being exposed to the chemical, said Ana Soto, an endocrinologist and developmental biologist at Tufts University in Boston.

A large number of common drugs and supplements contain chemicals called phthalates, which are often found in plastics, found a new study. These chemicals have been linked to a variety of hormonal and reproductive problems in both rats and people.
Scientists can't yet say how levels of phthalates in pills might translate into health risks. But for now, pregnant women and children might want to be cautious, said scientists behind the work, especially those who take regular doses of medicine for chronic conditions.
It may be impossible to completely avoid phthalates in medicines, though, because not all phthalate-containing drugs mention inactive ingredients on their packaging. And researchers don't want people to stop taking the pills they need.
Instead, the new work points to the need for both further research and possible action by regulating agencies.

The worrisome, hormone-disrupting chemical BPA showed up in every urine sample taken from more than 80 preschoolers in two states, reported a recent study of kids, ages 2 through 5.
And even though BPA often appears in samples of dust, air and surfaces of objects, the new study found that most of the BPA that got into the little kids came from their food.
The researchers weren't able to determine which foods delivered the largest doses of BPA. But the chemical often appears in the linings of cans and in hard, clear polycarbonate plastic containers. Recent studies have also documented the migration of the chemical from packaging into foods.
Levels of BPA detected in the kids' urine fell well below declared safe limits. Still, the findings suggest that caregivers could reduce the chemical burden of children they care for by paying more attention to the packaging their food comes in.

Supplement sales are soaring in Britain as more and more Brits become savvy to the fact that the nutrient-depleted food supply is simply not sufficient when it comes to obtaining and maintaining optimal health. What many of these Brits do not realize, however, is that not all supplements are of equal value to your body.
In fact, many supplements sold in pharmacies and grocery stores around the globe are loaded with synthetic vitamins, which could actually be wreaking havoc on your biological function. Less than a year after Frito-Lay announced plans to make half their products without “any artificial or synthetic ingredients,” the $13 billion company was sued last week in federal court for fraudulently marketing the snacks that contain genetically modified ingredients.
Somehow, “artificial” and “synthetic” doesn’t include “genetically modified” in Frito’s mind.
In its April 2011 “Seed-to-Shelf” disclosure campaign, Frito-Lay promised to inform consumers about each individual snack’s ingredients, even setting up an app for smartphone users to swipe the product’s barcode and read about it. Ann Mukherjee, Frito-Lay’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer, gushed:
Real foods? All natural? Even Monsanto defines genetically modified organisms as unnatural, which the lawsuit quoted: “Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) – Plants or animals that have had their genetic makeup altered to exhibit traits that are not naturally theirs.”
The World Health Organization agrees, defining GMOs as “organisms in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally.”
The lawsuit names only one plaintiff, Julie Gengo of Richmond, California, but includes all those who purchased Frito’s products which bear the “ALL NATURAL” label. Last August, the law firm Milberg LLP invited potential litigants to contact them.
A substance patented as a flame retardant and banned as a food ingredient throughout Europe and in Japan is present in 10% of all soft drinks in the US. The December 12, 2011 issue of Environmental Health News reviews the history of this toxic ingredient, including the fact that "extreme soda binges - not too far from what many video gamers regularly consume" have resulted in skin lesions, memory loss and nerve disorders.
Fruit-flavored flame retardant
Mountain Dew, Fanta Orange, Squirt, some flavors of Gatorade and Powerade, as well as other fruit-flavored beverages contain brominated vegetable oil (BVO). On the Nutrition Connection page of its website, the Coca-Cola Company, which manufactures Fanta, defines BVO's as "stabilizers to prevent the citrus flavoring oils from floating to the surface in beverages." In other words, as Environmental Health News explains, BVO weighs down the citrus flavoring so that it mixes with the other soda ingredients, just as flame retardants slow down the chemical reactions which can cause fires.
FDA says safe?
Brominated vegetable oil is derived from soybean or corn and contains bromine atoms. BVO was removed from the FDA's "Generally Recognized as Safe List" for flavor additives in 1970. The Flavor Extract Manufacturers' Association subsequently petitioned to get BVO re-approved, this time as a stabilizer rather than a flavor additive. Following the submission of industry-generated studies showing that BVO was harmless when present in soft drinks within "safe limits." The FDA in 1977 granted "interim approval" for use of the substance, limiting it to 15 parts per million. That interim has so far lasted 30 years. The Environmental Health News article quotes an FDA spokesperson as saying that re-examining the status of BVO "is not a public health priority for the agency at this time."

Bill S.1867: Legalization Of Martial Law, End Of The Republic
The Military Appropriation Bill for 2012 Bill S.1867 will pass as early as tomorrow, Dec. 15 2011, and be signed into law by the President. This innocuous sounding Bill represents the end of any last pretence that the Republic of the United States still exists. Remember that date, because it is the death day of our beloved 235 year old Republic.
The very act itself of slipping a clause such as Section 1031, which authorizes the armed forces to arrest and indefinitely detain anyone anywhere in the world with no need for a trial or any judicial process, into an otherwise necessary military appropriations bill has to be the most crass bit of legerdemain ever performed by this or any government.
The mainstream press when they mention the Bill at all pretend that Section 1031 which allows the armed forces to arrest anyone for mere suspicion or convenience and detain them for any length of time (to “disappear” them forever) without any need of a trial (the abandonment of habeus corpus) does not actually apply to American citizens. 10. Ecosystem Collapse
Our biodiversity is vanishing. At least 30,000 new species become extinct each year, a higher rate than ever before in history. Every single organism on the planet is integrally intertwined with the life of others. To make our life easier in the here and now we are slashing and burning forests, slaughtering animals, transporting organisms from their original ecosystem to others, and introducing synthetic materials into the environment, just to name a few. We are already upsetting the checks and balances of the global ecosystem but have not yet seen a devastating consequence such as the extinction of pollinating insects leading to widespread crop failure and the eventual starvation of humans. Ecologist use the imagery of a "marginal tree," that once cut will throw our planet into chaos to explain the unpredictability of a cataclysmic ecological collapse.
9. Global War
Although, tensions between world groups wax and wane causing the public to frequently go from worrying about a global war to forgetting about it, global war is a constant threat. It is believed that there are at least 20,000 active nuclear weapons in the world. A malicious use of these weapons or even an accidental nuclear exchange or misfire could be disastrous for the planet. Even more worrisome should be the treat of biological warfare. Using killer germs is cheap, they are also easy to produce and conceal. Even scarier, they can become impossible to control.
8. Aliens Attack The Earth
The chance of encountering intelligent extraterrestrial life becomes greater every day. As of January 8, 2008, 217 planets have been discovered outside of our solar system and 2-3 new ones are found each month. Famous astronomer Carl Sagan believed there to be billions upon billions of planets in the universe. With such high numbers it is hard, if not impossible, to believe that there is no intelligent life in the universe besides human and that an alien invasion and destruction of Earth is impossible. It is theorized that it would not be a conflict between humans and aliens that would cause lead to our end but that the aliens would exploit Earth for her resources or merely disrupt the planet by mistake.

Ever wonder what's really in the food sold at grocery stores around the world? People keep asking me, "What ingredients should I avoid?" So I put together a short list that covers all the most toxic and disease-promoting ingredients in the food supply. Acrylamides - Toxic, cancer-causing chemicals formed in foods when carbohydrates are exposed to high heat (baking, frying, grilling). They're present in everything from bread crusts to snack chips, and because they aren't intentional ingredients, acrylamides do NOT have to be listed on labels.
Aspartame - Chemical sweetener that causes neurological disorders, seizures, blurred vision and migraine headaches.
Autolyzed Proteins - Highly processed form of protein containing free glutamate and used to mimic the taste-enhancer chemical MSG.
Casein - Milk proteins. Hilariously, this is widely used in "soy cheese" products that claim to be alternatives to cow's milk. Nearly all of them are made with cow's milk proteins.

Components
Although the exact makeup of Coca-Cola remains a secret recipe, there are many things that are widely known to go into the product that account for its nutritional value.
The ingredients found on most Coca-Cola product labels include carbonated water, high-fructose corn syrup, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors and caffeine that make up all of the calories, sodium, sugar and carbohydrates in the drink. Aspartame, potassium benzoate and citric acid are added to diet flavors.
Effects
Coca-Cola has been deemed unhealthy for a number of reasons. One can of Coke can contain about 10 percent sugar. Large amounts of sugar in a person's diet are related to high stress levels, and while it doesn't directly cause diabetes, it can worsen a diabetic's situation. Sugar also contributes to weakening immune systems because yeast and bacteria in the body feed on sugar. It can even speed the aging process when it becomes attached to proteins, which causes a loss in elasticity. In diet drinks, the sugar is substituted with saccharin (or aspartame) to provide a sweetener, and has been researched as a possible cause of bladder cancer.
There are also a small percentage of people who cannot physically metabolize the amino acid in aspartame, causing it to build up in the bloodstream. High-fructose corn syrup is metabolized differently in the human body than natural sugars because the corn syrup is a product of genetically altered plants. Nutritionists have scrutinized connections between obesity, diabetes and high-fructose corn syrup. The potassium benzoate used in Coke products harms DNA in mitochondria of cells in the body, inactivating their ability to produce energy. Another health issue is that the recurrent exposure of the acid added to Coca-Cola contributes to the probability of tooth decay because of its reaction with calcium in teeth. The phosphoric acid is dangerous for those with a pre-existing stomach ulcer. Coca-Cola is also known to be a highly caffeinated beverage, and substantial caffeine intake acts as a diuretic and has negative effects, including hyperactivity.
Uses
Coca-Cola can be used in moderation to help in certain medical situations, such as upset stomachs, re-hydration and to unclog medicinal feeding lines. The acid in the drink can be used to alleviate wasp stings; the sweetness assists in attracting rats and, if ingested, will eventually cause them to explode from not being able to eject the gas built up from the bubbles. Coke is also used as an oil stain remover and to wash away blood from roadside accidents.

Japan's Meiji Holdings said on Dec. 6 that radioactive cesium was found in infant milk powder made by the food and dairy firm, in the latest food scare to grip the country nearly nine months after the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Shares of Meiji plunged nearly 10 percent to their lowest close since May 2009 following the news. Meiji said it was recalling 400,000 cans of the infant formula, which is sold only in Japan.
Worries over the safety of food supplies have shaken the public after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami crippled the Fukushima Daiichi plant in the worst nuclear accident in 25 years, spreading radiation over a large swathe of northern and eastern Japan.
Meiji said it is unsure exactly how the cesium got into the powdered milk, but it suspects radioactive substances emitted from the Fukushima accident may have been the source. A company spokesman told Reuters hot air used in the drying process may have contained cesium.

Instead of running as far away from a nuclear plant, crocodiles seem to feel well in the cooling channels of the atomic complex.
American biologists have identified nearly 400 reptiles, 5 meters long in adults and a ton heavy, only to chicken out of eggs.
